Yesterday the Rockets suffered a few injuries in game, All Star James Harden was able to return to the game but newly minted starter Patrick Beverley did not return to the game after only 10 minutes of game time. Yesterday they were able to best the lowly Bobcats, and today during practice neither Harden nor Beverley practiced, both sitting out with injuries they got yesterday.
Harden missed due to the sore back and Beverley missed due to his bruised ribs. Both players are listed as day to day and while it's not serious injuries IMO it's best both players rest till they are completely healthy no need to force these guys to start with the depth they have on the team.
Backing up Patrick Beverley, is last years starter Jeremy Lin and old Rockets starter Aaron Brooks, now the depth behind James Harden is iffy with Francisco Garcia and Ronnie Brewer but you can live with those 2 for a game or two rather then push Harden and ride with the two for much longer.
Rockets play the Dallas Mavericks on Friday at Toyota Center.

Rockets not able to escape the injury bug
Game 1 went to the Rockets as the Bobcats lost 96 to 83, as sweet as the win was there was a few nervous moments for Rockets fans, as the team was not to escape game 1 with out injures. Patrick Beverly and James Harden both left during the game
but only Harden returned to the game. James Harden left with stiff back but
ended up checking back in to the game, he was able to finish shooting 7-16 for
21 points and finished the game in the floor. Post game Harden said it started
this morning and hoped it’d be good at game time, but it got bad again during
the game.
Beverly unlike Harden did not return to the game after
taking a hit to the ribs, his 1st ever start during the regular season
may have ended early but he brought his full court pressure style to the game
and in 10 minutes he went 2-4 for 5 points. Post game Beverly tweeted that he
will be back for the Mavericks game this Friday at home. Even Jeremy Lin had to have stiches on his
chin during the game but was able to finish the game and did not seem to affect
him.
Rockets beat Bobcats 96 to 83
The new look Rockets took the court minus last year’s
starter Jeremy Lin who was relegated to the bench role and replaced with
defensive minded Patrick Beverley. The Rockets also added a new element to the
team they have lacked in so many years past, A TRUE POWER FORWARD. Dwight
Howard made his Houston Rockets debut alongside Center Omer Asik giving the
team true size.
Tip off came and it was time for the hype to meet the
Bobcats in the 1st game of a long 82 game season. On the 1st offensive and defensive
possession you saw the bad and the good of the Rockets Twin Towers lineup.
After winning the tip Dwight Howard stepped out of bounds while trying to drive
the baseline, but on the defensive end he came off the weakside to cause a miss
from Bobcats Al Jefferson. For the better part of the 1st half the 1st
team offense seemed to struggle as the team seemed to play in slow motion.
Head coach Kevin McHale said in his post-game press conference
that watching the offense was like going to the dentist. The team was saved by Francisco
Garcia who started lighting up the Bobcats with 3’s finishing with 19 points.
The team was able to remaining in the game while the offense stalled early with
both Dwight Howard and Omer Aisk combining to snag 40 rebounds, 3 more rebounds
than the entire Bobcats team. In the end the team was able to best the lowly
Bobcats at home 96 to 83 and hold the 37% shooting.
Below is Francisco Garcia talking about tonight’s game

Texans health update
During the rain and wind while you were indoors the team
took to the field another day with Case Keenum as QB 1. Coach said the team practiced
well and with “good energy” coach said. Today not taking the practice field for
the Texans were RB Arian Foster, LG Wade Smith and MLB Daryl Sharpton. Coach
did describe that it is no biggie that Wade Smith did not practice and it will
be this way the whole season. “It’s just routine” in reference to Smith
continuing to miss practice time, he also followed with “he’ll only practice 2
days a week weather he likes it or not”. Coach Kubiak also mentioned that Arian
Foster still could be in the mix come the end of the week “he went out and stretched,
did some stuff, did some walkthrough” but he knows Foster will do everything he
can to be there. Below is coach Kubiak talking about all the 3 new running
backs he signed on Monday…

Remembering The Legend Bum Phillips
How do you remember the man in the Stetson hat, you remember have well..... And that's what happened 10-29-13, the service was MC'd by former Houston Oilers Tight End and current minister Mike Barber. The crowd may not have been max capacity, but the atmosphere
was electric! Former players, politicians and even a warden from the largest
maximum security prison all came to pay their respects and share stories of the
legendary Bum Phillips. The night started with the ole Luv Ya Blue fight song,
the crowd sung along and clapped in unison.
Carl Mauck a former Oilers Center shared “Our numbers are shrinking, we lost our head coach, but we still got our town” followed by a verse from the Oiler Cannnonball.
Everyone Oiler, every person that came up to speak mentioned
to just how awesome and special of a person he was. The overall take away from
the event is this love for one person one coach will never be duplicated again
because their will never be another Bum Phillips again. Bum was a marine raider
survived through war, Bum coached the Houston Oilers to the greatest highs in
team history, but overall Bum was a person will could only hope to be.
Afterwords I was able to catch up with one of the nights speakers a should be Houston Oilers Hall of Famer Robert Brazile aka Dr Doom and we talked about Bum's send of and Robert shared for the younger generation what exactly is Lov Ya Blue......
NBA Start of the Season Power Rankings
Season starts tonight and right now here are the power rankings for game 1. Lots of changes happened this offseason players being moved including lots of coaching changes. So which teams are the hot teams at the start of the season and who is down near the bottom......
1. Heat - They won the championship last season and they still got Lebron James so they get the number 1 spot in my power rankings.
2. Pacers - 2nd best team in the Eastern conference is the 2nd best team in the NBA, plus they got stronger and they get back Danny Granger who spent almost all of last season injured.
3. Clippers - The team was good last season, they kept Chris Paul and they finally get a REAL NBA head coach in Doc Rivers.
4. Spurs - Last season they were a 3 pointer away from winning an NBA Championship, but their BIG THREE is OLD so you have to wonder if they can hold up.
5. Rockets - James Harden and Dwight Howard per NBA GM's are the top players at there positions, plus they have an ever improving Chandler Parsons.
6. Grizzles - New coach same hard nosed defense? You sure as hell hope so, plus they add sharpshooter Mike Miller.
7. Warriors - Last season they had the highest 3 point efficiency in the league at .403% and the come back with almost the same team plus they add ultra athletic Andre Iguodala.
8. Thunder - Just having a Kevin Durant on your team makes you a top 10 team, if Russell Westbrook was starting the season uninjured they'd be a top 5 team.
9. Bulls - They were right behind the Pacers without D-Rose last year, now they get D-Rose back it's kinda like picking up a top tier free agent in the offseason.
10. Nets - This is the 2000 All NBA name team, but really is a collection of old stars enough to get you very far in the playoffs. If that wasn't enough they will be coached by 1st time coach Jason Kidd.
11. Knicks - Carmelo Anthony is the only reason the Knicks are this close to the NBA top 10, with out Anthony they would sure contend for the bottom 10 rather then the top 10.
12. Mavericks - Dirk Nowitzki gets something he hasn't had in a while, fairly good guards Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon join the team, plus hopefully an added focus on the D.
13. Hawks - Reworked roster that still has a very decent center in Al Horford, but adds Paul Millsap who could have a breakout season with the Hawks.
14. Pistons - This isn't your brothers Pistons but hey this year they wont be that bad, Josh Smith makes these guys a playoff team for the 1st time in the long time.
15. Nuggets - They were a good team last year, but traded George Karl for Brian Shaw and I am not sure that really helps your team.
16. Pelicans - A loaded young team outside of center, you wonder how long it will take for these guys to gel but they sure are a fringe playoff team.
17. Trailblazers - 33 and 49 last year Damian Lillard is a star in the making and he alone his continued growth pushes them ever closer to .500
18. Wizards - John Wall and Bradley Beal make a good 1-2 punch plus they get a sorta kinda good big man in Marcin Gortat look for them to finish 10 through 8 in the East.
19. Lakers - Can they hang around till Kobe gets healthy, they got a decent team but for so many years they have been Kobe heavy… What will they do with out Kobe?
20. Timberwolves - I am a believer in Rick Adelman and his scrappy group of Kevin Love and friends will surprise some teams but will still finish below .500
21. Cavaliers - The growth of sensation Kyrie Irving and now he gets a real head coach in Mike Brown, who can hopefully make these guys competitive.
22. Jazz - These team was blown out last year and is different at every position, you gotta wonder how long it will take till they gel
23. Raptors - 1, 2, and 3 not to bad for the only Canadian team but at 4 and 5 the just has bodies and not real NBA talent
24. Bucks - Brandon Knight breakout player?? Why not, this team might come up and bite some people but just wont be consistent.
25. Celtics - Don't really feel Rondo makes it a whole season in Boston, but if he does they could finish high, Rondo is that good!
26. 76ers - This team might be good one day, but not this year not sure if I believe in the MCW and J-Rich back court
27. Kings - DeMarcus Cousins a futrue top 3 center, or will he continue to be a head case….. Will Ben McLemore work well with Cousins?
28. Bobcats - Micheal Jordan would make this team better! As a player, not as an owner…. The team is a waste of an NBA Team.
29. Suns - You wonder how the backcourt of Dragic and Bledsoe work out, porbaly not bad but the rest of the team sucks.
30. Magic - In the mix for the most ping pong balls next season already, most teams have 1 star Magic have negative 0 stars

Comcast vs. Astros vs. Rockets Update
Comcast vs. Astros vs. Rockets went WWE hell in a cell style
as they entered Judge Marvin Isgur bankruptcy court on Monday. While I did not
attend the whole court case I did come away with some new knowledge and here
are the things I learned. Since I am not a legal EE’s expert my opinion is
strictly as a 3 year old…..
Things I learned today…..
CSN Bay area was owed 43,000 plus and became a key competent
in this Bankruptcy hearing all because of “dual feeds” now what is a dual feed.
It was explained that Dual feeds is TV lingo for the home team sharing their
large and small production van with the away team to help save money. So since
they were not paid they were able to become a part of the Bankruptcy petition.
The media rights fees were also learned, 45 million to the
Rockets and 55 million to the Astros. I don’t know but I can assume the Rockets
were paid all last season but apparently Comcast ran out of money and did not
pay the Astros for the months of July and August. It was also learned that from
John Ruth a CSN board member that Direct TV is a “Wild card” in terms of will
they or won’t they want the channel. It was also learned most other TV
providers had no interest in the RSN (Regional Sports Network).
The more interesting part of the night was towards the tail
end of the night Judge Isgur asked John Ruth point blank could the Astros find
better out there and he said and his response was no…. The judge also followed
what about Fox? Ruth replied I am not sure, which leads to maybe the judge
could be thinking about breaking this all up and letting them all go their own
way.
After Ruth was finished with his questioning the next
witness was brought up Margaret Barradas, who is the managing director for Crane
Capital. During her questioning it was learned that Comcast would lose 200
million over the next 10 years.
Collusion was the word I took away from court during the
mere 2 and hours I spent listening to testimony back and forth and even the
judge used the same word, making it seem more and more likely this marriage
could be heading to divorce court sooner rather than later.
Court will resume today and while I am not sure I will be
make sure to follow David Barron as he will be there covering all the minute by
minute baby momma drama that is, will we ever see the Astros OR Rockets on TV?

Gunslinger Gets A Second Start
Texans last week went about the mindset of checking the tape
and improving going forward. Today coach Kubiak named the Gunslinger Case Keenum
the starter for Sunday Night Football against the AFC South leading Indianapolis
Colts. The saying all along was when Matt Schaub is healthy he will get his
starting job back, and spoiler alert Schaub is healthy and will back up Keenum.
Coaches must have seen something from Case Keenum that no
other QB has given them this year. Keenum in one game was able to do something
we haven’t seen in a long time, give the team a down field passing attack. If
not for a pass that went straight through the fingertips of Garrett Graham you
could have seen a team go in and beat the best team in the NFL (Chiefs).

Texans to add 5
After what can only be described as Bloody Monday or interesting footnote that will definitely be needed to be added to the wiki page at the end of the season. Sam Montgomery, Willie Jefferson and Cierre Wood all 3 undrafted rookies were cut on the Monday following a heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-16. As a result of that game standout MLB Brian Cushing was also lost for the season with a broken leg, with 4 roster spots open the team decided to add a 5th spot by cutting MLB Tim Dobbins.
With injuries to running backs Arian Foster and Ben Tate the team was left with Greg Jones as the only active back. Per John McClain the team is adding 3 running backs including adding RB Ray Graham from the teams practice squad. Joining him in the roster will be 2 backs he competed with in camp, Deji Karim and Dennis Johnson will be joining the team on Monday. Also joining the team are MLB’s Tavares Gordon and Jeff Tarpinian. These 5 guys fill the void left by the open roster spots the team created last week.

UFC Fight Night 30 main card recap
The Dragon made a statement to the rest of the 185ers, Lyoto
Machida did something he hasn’t done in his last 2 fights. FINSIH, Machida did
what Machida does, the fight started with a feeling out process like all of his
fights and he was able to find a split second opening and decided to restart buddy
Mark Munoz’s brain via head kick. Afterwards when being interviewed by Joe
Rogan, he admitted he could waffle again “I’m staying at 185” Machida said but followed
with basically if Dana tells me to go back to 205 I will.
The Co-Main event was a little bit anticlimactic and was
ruled a no contest after a Melvin Guillard used a questionable knee to split
open Ross Pearson’s skull. Post-fight it was announced the 2 would tango again
March 8th in London.
Rightly hyped Light Heavyweight prospect Jimi Manuwa did
what he does best, cause pain and inflict injuries. Ryan Jimmo ate knees and
leg kicks and finally in the 2nd round after eating knee he took a
step back smiled and then dropped to the ground in what can only be described as
his brain caught the rest of his body and decided it was better to not
continue. With the TKO this marks Manuwa’s 5TH straight fight ending
via TKO.

Rockets waive Daniels
Rockets days away from the regular are trying to get down to
the 15 player regular season roster limit. Today Rockets announced undrafted
guard Troy Daniels has been waived, Daniels has not been used during the
preseason. Daniels was brought in on the 13th and almost 2 weeks
later he is now leaving the Rockets. Rockets.com still shows the team sits at
18 players, but really now sit at 17 players 2 players above league requirements.
Issiah Canaan, Robert Covington are likely to spend the season with the Rio
Grand Vipers.
UFC Fight Night 30 prelim recap/results
The prelim card in Manchester was highlighted by Al Iaquinta
getting a win over a very game Piotr Hallmann. The New York native for 3 rounds
was able to hold of Hallmann, and use effective striking and timely grappling
to get the unanimous decision. The buzz during the prelims was the women’s
bantamweight fight, Jessica Andrade was able to best veteran Rosi Sexton. The
buzz wasn’t so much about the win but more about how Andrade was able to get
the win. Sexton took a very, very, very bad beating for 15 minutes, and her
face may never be the same. While Sexton never gave up and kept fighting back
she still was pretty much a pauching bag for the entire fight. The fight
between Jessica Andrade and Rosi Sexton won’t go down as the greatest fight in
WMMA history, but it sure will go down as one of the most lopsided wins in the
history of the UFC’s women’s division.
1 more fight of note, Cole Miller used his outstanding
ground game to get the win over UK favorite Andy Ogle. Miller in the 1st
two rounds looked OUTSTANDING on the ground, but was not able to put away the feisty
Ogle. In the 3rd round Ogle pushed the pace and was able to get the
better of Miller, but was not able to get the much needed finish that he clearly
needed to win the fight. Afterwards Miller went Chael Sonnen style and called
out British fighters including the much hyped Conor McGregor calling him Conor
McGoober then walking off. I will be honest I would like that fight….
Preliminary card (Facebook/Youtube)
Lightweight - Al Iaquinta (7-2-1) def Piotr Hallmann (14-2)

What To Watch
Your time and your DVR will be full of stuff to watch this
weekend lots of happenings in sports, I will try to help you find just the
important stuff to watch so you don’t watch something silly and meaningless.
MLB World Series Red Soxs vs. Cardinals games 3
& 4 (FOX) will be Saturday and Sunday in St. Louis, now I am not a
baseball guy but the series is tied at 1, so tune your ass in!
College Football: Penn State vs. Ohio State (ABC night game)
I am not a huge Penn
State especially after (the incident) but I am even less of a fan of Ohio
State, plus Penn State did beat Michigan… Can they pull out another win against
a better opponent?
College Football: Baylor vs. Kansas (ESPNU night game)
I am watching to see if Baylor can score 100 points!! Kansas
allowed 54 to Texas Tech and Baylor is better than Tech so it’s possible.
College Football: Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma (FOX afternoon
game)
As a Texas Tech supporter (GO RED RADIERS) you should watch
to see if Tech is real, if they can get past the Sonners it may be time to
build a statue to Kliff Kingsbury
NFL: Dallas vs. Detroit (FOX early game)
This game just SCREAMS shootout at the OK carol gunslingers
Tony Romo and Matt Stafford could throw for a 1,000 yards between the 2 of them
NFL: New York vs. Cincinnati (CBS afternoon game)
A week after beating the Patriots have people saying
PLAYOFFS?!?!?!?! About the J-E-T-S and if that is true they are going to have
to get past Cincinnati which will not be easy.

Why Watch UFC Fight Night 30 plus Weigh in video
5 reasons to watch UFC Fight Night 30
1. Lyoto Machida makes his way to Middleweight
After spending his entire UFC career at Light Heavyweight Machida
now drops down to Middleweight. He will fight Mark Munoz who is a standout
wrestler with a big KO power. A true test for Machida, if he shows well he
could shorten his run for a title shot at Middleweight.
2. Jimi Manuwa
This guy could go as himself for Halloween and be the
scariest costume ever! Manuwa was put on this earth to cause pain, and that’s
what he does his last 3 fights have ended between rounds.
3. Melvin Guillard fights
If you want to watch a boring fight, you probably won’t
enjoy the Co-Main event between Melvin Guillard and Ross Pearson. In Guillard’s
last 8 fights 6 have been finished he has finished 3 and he been finished 3
times, look for fireworks in this lightweight tilt.
4. Cat fight *meow*
DO NOT overlook a women’s fight in the UFC or in any
organization for that matter. More often than not the women’s fight is the best
fight on the card, the ladies have no problem leaving the cage with a black
eye.
5. Houston connection
I am a Houston guy so you gotta show love to the HTOWN
fighters, Andrew Craig missed out on the Houston card by a week. Look for him
rudely welcome TUF 17 fighter Luke Barnatt to the ranks of the formerly
unbeaten fighters.

Should Mack Brown Be Out At The End Of The Season?
Say the name Mack Brown to a Longhorn fan and you will get varied
reactions, some will remember the highs and some will remember the lows. The
real question is can Mack Brown still turn this thing around? Since 2009 Brown’s
last Championship run, the once great and proud Longhorns have went 26 and 18
still good for most college football teams but not for Texas. The 18 losses in
the past 4 years comparers very badly to the 26 losses he suffered in HIS 1ST
12 years at Texas. Most would say the path he is on is a very disturbing trend
that he can’t pull himself out of. Mack Brown with QB’s Vince Young and Colt
McCoy were able to give Texas 2 national championship appearances and went 1-1
during those runs, but recently his job as a talent evaluator/head coach has
come in to question.
Most notably Heisman winners Johnny Manziel and Robert
Griffin III both were recruits of Texas and both were not wanted for their QB
skills, Mack Brown wanted both to be in the defensive backfield. While they
could have been great on defensive chances are they would not have been Heisman
winners like they were at QB. True in recruiting nobody really knows what a kid
will do, it kinda of looks really bad when the kid you passed on turns out to
be a Heisman winner.
So who can restore buzz and excitement to the once great and
proud Longhorn nation? You could take a gamble on a young and talented assistant,
or you could go with a proven winner who has built programs and can win at
Texas. Enter Art Briles head coach of the #6 ranked Baylor Bears, Briles
started his coaching career at the University of Houston and has been able to
bring electric QB’s like Case Keenum and Robert Griffin to his programs and run
a dynamic offense. This season Briles is overseeing an offense that would make
the Oregon Ducks jealous, this year the Bears has failed to score at least 69 points
just once and is averaging 65 points a game. He isn’t just using the passing
game this season the running game has balled out too!

NFL Hot & Cold plus The Texans
1. Kansas City Chiefs – Well they are the only 7-0 team in
the NFL so it’s kinda a no-brainer. QB Alex Smith may not be the greatest thing
on earth but they got this good RB named Jamaal Charles and a hell of a good
defense.
2. Denver Broncos – They are coming off a loss and scored
the fewest points they have this season (33) but still have this guy named Peyton Manning and that
makes them better than 99.9 percent of the other teams.
3. Seattle Seahawks – If the Chiefs have the number 1
defense, than the Seahawks defense is 1.1 they are just about the same as the
Chiefs, but have a better game manager at QB.
4. New Orleans Saints –A magical final minute from Tom Brady doesn’t make the Saints not good, they are still miles ahead of last year’s Saints.
5. Cincinnati Bengals – Young team, good defense red headed QB, what’s not to like? Oh losses to the Bears and Browns but they are still damn good.
22. Houston Texans – For a team with so much talent to be in
such a disarray, has to madding for Texan owner Bob McNair and Texans fans.
28. Oakland Raiders – Yeah they aren’t very good, but they
have a promising QB in Terrelle Pryor so the rest of the season is to see if he
is the future.
29. New York Giants – They are a GIANT pile of po*h a flaming
disappointment and this year Eli is the complete inverse of his brother.
30. Minnesota Vikings - The team has a stable of QB’s that
shouldn’t be on anybody’s team, if they didn’t have Adrian Peterson and Jared
Allen they would be the laughing stock of the league.
31. Jacksonville Jaguars – unlike Tampa Bay these guys have
just a little bit more of an upside, but don’t get me wrong they are still a
joke.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – This team has no hope and there
is a good bet the coaching staff is gone at years end this team is ripe for the
picking if you’re a team in need of help.
Rockets Next Great Superpower?
Jalen Rose on Grantland said when Kevin Durant becomes a free agent he will leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the Houston Rockets. If this does become a possibility, it would make the Houston Rockets the new Los Angeles Lakers.

This season the Rockets added a seemingly rejuvenated Dwight Howard to a team of budding stars. James Harden was voted by NBA General Mangers to be the best shooting guard in the league, one of many signs of the surging growth of this young talented team. Of course this is just speculation by Rose, but if true it "could" turn out to be the best collection of NBA talent the NBA has ever seen in my opinion. If the Rockets are able to keep the core group of Dwight Howard, James Harden, Chandler Parsons and add Kevin Durant to the mix, it would be a near unstoppable force, easily better then the Miami Heat's collection of current stars.
